Ah Yone Oo School

Within a period of five weeks, we completed the construction of two new classrooms, a meeting room and a small gallery space. We invited groups of architecture students from Assumption University (AU) and King Monkhut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) in Bangkok, as well as students from Harrow International School to participate in earth construction workshops together with the local community.
In these workshops we demonstrated local construction techniques by using Bamboo, Eucalyptus and Adobe Bricks (BaanDin). The Adobe bricks have been produced in collaboration with local students and volunteers by using locally available soil mixed with water and rice husk as a fiber material. The bricks got sun-dried over a period of three days before they were ready to use for construction.
